LEAK TruStream – Troubleshooting Guide
Collapsible content
I’m having issues setting up my TruStream. What should I check first?
Always begin by verifying your software and firmware versions. Keeping the TruStream firmware and app up to date often resolves many setup and streaming issues.
How do I update the TruStream firmware?
The LEAK TruStream uses two firmware versions, each updated differently.
1) MCU Firmware (Manual update via USB)
The MCU firmware controls the core hardware functions of the unit, including:
- Front panel operation
- Display functions
- Button control
- Core system behaviour
MCU firmware updates are not automatic. If required, they are installed manually using a USB storage device connected to the rear-panel MCU Update port.
MCU updates are released only when necessary and will always be accompanied by clear installation instructions provided on the LEAK support website or via authorised dealer support.
The latest MCU firmware will always be available on our support page:
https://leak-hifi.co.uk/pages/firmware-drivers
Only the most recent version will be published. Please follow the instructions included with the update package when installing new firmware.
2) Streaming Module Firmware
The streaming module firmware controls the network and streaming functionality of TruStream, including:
- Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity
- Streaming services
- Network communication
These updates are delivered over the network (OTA) and will be prompted in the LEAK TruStream App.
Unlike the MCU firmware, streaming firmware cannot be updated via USB. When an update becomes available, the TruStream App will notify you and guide you through the update process.
Does TruStream support OTA (Over-The-Air) updates?
Yes. The TruStream streaming platform supports OTA updates. The device periodically checks for new firmware.
When a new firmware version is available, a “New Firmware Available” notification will appear within the ‘About’ section of the TruStream App.
To install the update:
- Open the TruStream App
- Navigate to About
- Select Upgrade Firmware
The app will then install the update automatically. A notification icon will also appear within the app menu when updates are available.
How do I check that I’m using the latest version of the TruStream App?
Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and ensure the LEAK TruStream App is fully updated.
If issues persist, delete the app from your device and reinstall the latest version from the store.
Restart your phone or tablet before reopening the app.
My TruStream does not appear in the app. What should I do?
First verify the following:
- Your phone or tablet is connected to the same network as TruStream
- The TruStream display shows either:
- An Ethernet icon (wired connection)
- A solid Wi-Fi icon (wireless connection)
If the device still does not appear, restart the TruStream, your router and your phone or tablet.
If the issue persists, restart your network following the steps below.
How do I restart everything correctly?
Switch off the TruStream using the rear power switch.
Restart your router.
Restart your phone or tablet.
Power the TruStream back on and allow it to fully initialise before reopening the TruStream App.
Wi-Fi setup is not working in AP Mode. What should I check?
If AP Mode setup fails:
- Confirm AP Mode appears on the TruStream display
- If not, press and hold the WPS button for approximately 6 seconds to re-enter AP Mode
- Open your phone’s Wi-Fi settings and connect to TruStream-XXXX
- Return to the TruStream App and continue the setup process
WPS setup is not working. What can I try?
If WPS connection fails:
- Confirm that your router supports WPS
- Try reversing the connection order: press WPS on the router first, then on TruStream
If WPS continues to fail, we recommend using AP Mode or Ethernet, which typically provides the most reliable connection.
Does TruStream support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
Yes.
However, setup issues may occur if your phone and the TruStream are connected to different Wi-Fi bands.
During setup:
- Ensure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi band
- If available, enable a combined or “smart” SSID on your router
I am connected but have no sound. What should I check?
Please verify the following:
- Ensure the correct analogue or digital outputs are connected to the appropriate input on your amplifier or preamplifier
- Confirm that all interconnect cables are securely fitted
- If possible, test using an alternative interconnect cable
- Check the volume levels on both TruStream and your amplifier
- Ensure the correct streaming source is selected in the TruStream App
Always begin with the amplifier volume set low before increasing output levels.
Ensure the Correct Streaming Source is Selected
If audio is not playing, confirm that the correct streaming source is selected within the LEAK TruStream App. Depending on your system configuration, the TruStream may be receiving audio from a streaming service, network library, USB storage device or AirPlay connection. Selecting the correct source within the app will ensure playback is directed to the TruStream.
Audio Drops Out or Playback is Unstable. How Can I Improve Performance?
Intermittent playback is often due to network instability.
To improve performance, consider the following:
- Use a wired Ethernet connection wherever possible. High-resolution audio files require consistent bandwidth, and congested wireless networks may occasionally struggle with large data streams.
- Reduce network congestion by pausing large downloads or video streaming on other devices.
- Ensure the Wi-Fi antenna is positioned vertically and located away from other electronic equipment that may cause interference.
For the most reliable performance, a direct Ethernet connection to your router is recommended.
A Streaming Service Is Not Working. What Should I Check?
If a streaming service fails to operate correctly:
- Ensure the service is enabled within the TruStream App’s feature settings
- Confirm your account subscription is active and logged in
- Some streaming services require your mobile device and TruStream to be connected to the same local network
If the issue persists, restarting the app and reconnecting to the service may resolve the problem.
What Is the Recommended Setup Method?
For the most stable experience, we recommend connecting TruStream to your network using Ethernet during the initial setup.
A wired connection ensures reliable device discovery, smooth firmware updates and optimal streaming performance. Once configured, TruStream can also operate perfectly well over Wi-Fi where network conditions allow.
